Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a doctor-led medical injection treatment for unwanted leg veins that are not suitable for laser alone. A prescription sclerosant closes the treated vein, which is gradually reabsorbed by the body.
Two approaches
Tailored to your veins
The right approach is determined at a detailed consultation and vein assessment, often including a venous ultrasound to map the flow.
Microsclerotherapy
Direct-vision injection of smaller, visible surface veins such as spider veins and small reticular veins.
Ultrasound-guided
For deeper feeder or varicose veins, using ultrasound to map and precisely guide placement along the affected segment.
How it works
A clear, guided process
Treatment in rooms
A walk-in, walk-out procedure with no general anaesthetic. Most people need more than one session.
Review
A review with a repeat ultrasound to check progress and plan any further sessions.
Further treatment
If more is needed, subsequent sessions are spaced at least six weeks apart.
Is it right for you
You may be suitable if you
- Have leg veins too large or extensive for laser alone
- Have spider or reticular veins with underlying feeder veins
- Have leg symptoms such as heaviness, aching or throbbing
- Are in good general health and able to walk after treatment
- Are able to wear medical compression stockings as advised
